Wiesenthal Center Director for Eastern Europe Meets Serbian President Alexander Vučić

Belgrade – The Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Director for Eastern Europe, Dr. Efraim Zuroff, met here today with Serbian President Alexander Vučić to discuss the plans for the creation of a memorial center on the grounds of the Staro Sajmište former concentration camp. Zuroff, who is the Chairman of the International Advisory Committee for the project, urged President Vučić to ensure the necessary financial support to allow the implementation of the plan prepared by the Ministry of Culture to be implemented as quickly as possible.

According to Zuroff:

“With the impending passage of a special bill in the Serbian Parliament this fall, we hope that the site of Staro Sajmište will finally become a center for the commemoration of the Jewish, Serb and Roma victims incarcerated and murdered there.”

Zuroff also discussed the issue of rampant Holocaust distortion in Eastern Europe with President Vučić, who expressed his grave concern and thanked Zuroff for his ongoing efforts to combat these lies, especially in the Balkans.
