Asner: Who Was Not Loyal, Had To Leave

If the court is alright and if the judges are fair people, they have to acquit me. I was born a Croat, Anser said.

Milivoj Asner gave an exclusive interview for the Croatian Radio Television, in which he admitted to deporting Pozega Jews, Serbs and Roma people. He says they were not sent to camps, but their homelands.

Asner welcomed the TV crew into his home. He is unaware that an Interpol has an APB for his arrest, on suspicion of war crimes. He said his conscience was clear and that he can come to Croatia to stand trial.

- I am deeply convinced that if the court is alright and if the judges are fair people, they have to acquit me of all the charges. Because I was born a Croat – Asner said.

He added that he came to Pozega as the district head to impose peace and order and to implement Croatian policies. He denied being guilty for the deaths of Jews, Serbs and Roma people. He claimed that nothing has happened to those who were loyal citizens of the Croatian state. Those who were not, had to leave. Asner claims they were expedited to their homelands and not camps, because that would have been too expensive due to monitoring and food.

- I believed that if you are not a Croat and you hate Croatia, then go back to your homeland, go to Belgrade, Vojvodina, to your homeland and let us Croats be – Asner explained.

Asner was shown a photo from yesterday`s papers, of the only witness. He said he has never seen him before.

Asner said he was prepared to come to Croatia, even though his health and his age do not do him good.

- My conscience is clear and I can face court tomorrow, so trial me – Asner said.
