Nazi facing jail in city he terrorised
Police chief set for extradition after Sun
By BRIAN FLYNN

THE world’s most wanted Nazi is set to spend the rest of his life behind bars — in the city he terrorised during World War II.

Evil Laszlo Csatary — who sent 15,700 Jews to their deaths in Auschwitz — was arrested in Hungary after The Sun revealed he was secretly living in Budapest.

Now Slovakia wants 97-year-old Csatary to be hauled back to serve a life sentence for war crimes.

Justice Minister Tomas Borec has asked a court in Kassa, where Csatary worked as police chief, to issue an extradition request and international arrest warrant.

Mr Borec said: “This is one of the last possibilities for us to punish someone for crimes carried out during the Second World War.

“Csatary’s crimes cannot be justified on the basis that he acted on orders.”

Csatary is under house arrest while Hungarian prosecutors consider bringing their own charges.

He fled after the war, but was sentenced to death in 1948 for his role in deporting Jews from Kassa. Prosecutors say he was present when trains were loaded and sent to Auschwitz.

Slovakia said his sentence will be commuted to life in jail if he is extradited. Officials acted after The Sun probe led a series of witnesses to speak out.

A source said: “More Kassa residents have come forward, people who remember Csatary.” Campaigners welcomed moves to bring Csatary. to justice, but want him to face trial in Hungary as he was he was a Hungarian cop at the time.
