Latvian journalist Baiba Saberte has published a book "Laujiet man runat!" ("Let Me Speak!") on Herberts Cukurs, a Latvian aviator and journalist. The book reveals that there is no legal proof for the fact that Herberts Cukurs might have been involved in the slaughtering of Jews in Latvia or that he might have given such orders.

However, Abik Elkin, the author of the present article, still considers that Herberts Cukurs was a war criminal and no photo or audio materials are required to prove that. The journalist believes that the fact that Herberts Cukurs was a member of the notorious Arajs Kommando is indicative of his involvement in murders of Latvian Jews during World War II. Thus, the attempt to clean the bad name of Cukurs should be considered as the attempt to justify the genocide of Jews, Gypsy and others in the territory of Latvia.

The author of the article states that Cukurs - a war criminal and murderer - is not the right person of whom Latvia should take pride in.
