Unexpected meetings and bitter rebukes |

During the official visit to Israel, Foreign Minister Petras
Vaitiekunas heard not only nice words of gratitude for
the awards presented. Some Jewish representatives insisted
on Minister indicating the date when the Prosecutor General's
Office finishes the investigation on possible involvement
of famous Israeli historian Yitzhak Arad in the massacre
of civilian Lithuanians. Mr Arad has himself written about
it in his memoirs, published in the US. Lithuanian prosecutors
have in the past asked Mr Arad to arrive for testimony
but he thought this was revenge for charges that Jews pressed
on Lithuanians for Jewish genocide. Minister Vaitiekunas
was submitted a written protest regarding the investigation.
