Jerusalem – The Simon Wiesenthal Center today called upon the Danish authorities to investigate the recent findings of the Danish documentary series “Hitlers danske soldater” currently being screened weekly on Danish TV channel DR1, which revealed evidence of the possible participation of Danish citizens in Holocaust crimes in Graz, Austria in April 1945.
In a letter sent to Danish Justice Minister Nick Haekkerup by its chief Nazi-hunter Israel director Dr. Efraim Zuroff, the Center emphasized the need for a quick and comprehensive investigation to help achieve justice in this case.
According to Zuroff:
“I believe that by now, you are certainly aware of the recent revelations regarding the possible participation of Danish citizens, who are currently alive and living in Denmark, in Holocaust crimes in Graz, Austria in April 1945, as revealed by the Danish documentary series “Hitlers danske soldater“, currently being screened weekly by the Danish TV channel DR1.
“This is not the first time in recent years that such revelations have surfaced. The Wiesenthal Center played a role in bringing suspected Danish perpetrators in Bobruisk, Belarus to the attention of the Danish judicial authorities and the local police in the summer of 2015. Unfortunately, those individuals were never prosecuted, even though there were strong indications that they had participated in the mistreatment of Jewish prisoners in the Bobruisk labor camp.
“Once again, we stand ready to assist the pertinent Danish authorities to promptly carry out the necessary investigations, and hope that in this case, justice will be achieved.”
